Axolians

Brief History

Once proud vassals of the Immortal Platinum Dragon, Tayvren, the Axolians are caretakers of the larger freshwater lakes and rivers of Ezrahn. From their homeland of Lake Dyris, they have spread the length and breadth of the realm, establishing a foothold near major bodies of fresh water.

Before the Dragon Wars ravaged the realm, the Axolians sported scales as hard as their Dragon Mistress. Their platinum grey scales often shimmered with hues of the varied dragonkin.

When the Ancient Red Wyrm Cindesta led the revolt to overthrow Tayvren, most of the Axolians fled. Their loyalty broke, fracturing them and scattering them amongst the warring factions. Some joined with the various powerful Wyrms seeking Tayvren’s throne.

The few who remained apart hid amongst the waters of what is now called Lake Dyris. When Cindesta and her ilk were defeated, a battered and severely wounded Tayvren came to what was left of his followers.

“Why did you abandon me? Have I not always looked out for you? Protected you?”

The Axolians bowed their heads in shame until one elder stepped forward. “To our shame, we were afraid, oh mighty Tayvren. We are not worthy to be your vassals.” The elder began plucking his scales and placing them at the feet of Tayvren. When he finished and stood naked, his pale skin shined in the light. “Maybe, one day, we will be.”

The scales glowed and began attaching themselves to Tayvren, healing his wounds and strengthening him. The other Axolians followed their elder, by their sacrifice restoring Tayvren to his full glory. The Axolians then began their penance, guarding the waters of Ezrahn, with a wary eye to the skies for any return of the Dragon Overlords of old.
