Madame E’s Orphanage, located in Nishwam, is the one of the most well-known landmarks in the city, second only to the Tower of Magicks with its associated academy. Madame Elyza herself is a source of mystery as she has been in the city for nearly 200 years, helping the unfortunate and abandoned children of Nishwam. Some think she is a disgraced member of Elven royalty due to her appearance, and the truth isn’t far off. The offspring of a full-blooded elf and a half-elf, Elyza was abandoned by her parents at a young age. Living on the streets and clawing for every scrap she could, she eventually managed to raise herself to status among the city’s elite. Once her wealth and stature were assured, she turned her attention to helping children growing up the way she did.

Over the decades, she built connections amongst the high and low of the city, assuring that her “kids” would have opportunities after they grew up. Madame E has helped orphaned children have a future as wizards at the Academy or amongst the many Craft or Trading Guilds operating in the city. There has even been talk of connections to the Thieves Guild and the Highwaymen, who both have large presences in the bustling city.

Many of Madame E’s kids have attained positions of power within the city, becoming Grand Mages and Guildmasters. Even those not lucky enough to climb high on the social ladder often become successful shopkeepers and tradesmen. She can be strict with new arrivals, but everyone knows she has a heart of gold and firmly believes in second chances for the smallest and youngest of the city’s inhabitants.
